The truth about seborrhea

Do you know what seborrhea, or rather, seborrheic dermatitis? It is a disease in which areas of skin with many sebaceous glands become inflamed and peel. Contrary to popular belief that the inflammatory process affects only the skin of the scalp, the disease often transforms into some areas of the face and upper torso.

Learn seborrhea is simple: it manifests itself in the form of red scaly lesions of the scalp (mainly her hairy part). However, it is not always looks that way: often begins with seborrhea of the scalp, then appear redness that constantly itch, and then occur the bleeding wound. If they are joined by secondary infection, they abscess.

The hair quickly “oily”, especially the basal part, and the patient begins to notice that he had often to wash my hair, so his appearance was neat. Sometimes with lesions of the scalp on the background of seborrheic dermatitis hair starts to fall, down to baldness – however, after the removal of the inflammation of the hair growth is restored.⠀

In the absence of proper treatment of seborrhea shifted to the areas of skin above the eyebrows and between them, on the wings of the nose, behind the ears. On the torso seborrheic dermatitis manifests itself in the form of flakes.

How and why?

What is the cause? The thing is that on the surface of the skin – more precisely, the sebum starts to breed a fungus of the genus Malassezia (Malassezia). In fact, it is present in the form of spores on the skin of 90% of people, but its active growth only starts at an increased the development of skin sebaceous secretion and the decline in local or General immunity.

Deteriorating course of the disease on the background of stress, poor diet, Smoking, alcohol, and immunodeficiency States. However, to provoke seborrhea may be a simple vitamin deficiency, endocrine diseases and diseases of the nervous system. Age is also irrelevant: the most common disease in middle-aged people, but also found in adolescents.

Seborrhea is different

Oily seborrhea develops most often in young age. In puberty the sebaceous glands are working on the slaughter, therefore, formed a favorable environment for the propagation of the infectious agent. Primarily it appears on the face and scalp.

Dry seborrhea is characterized by low salvadorena: on the scalp and in the hair there are multiple dandruff flakes.

Mixed seborrhea. This also happens. In this case, the patient indications and dry and oily seborrhea, often on the same skin areas.

It is important not to confuse seborrhea psoriasis: however, at the slightest sign of the disease should consult a doctor, who by the correct diagnosis (clinical and biochemical blood tests, hormones, etc.) will determine the true problem. Sometimes diagnosis requires consultations of related specialists: gastroenterologist, endocrinologist and others.

You will be cured!

Despite the not very encouraging clinical picture, seborrhea treatable. Depending on the type of disease selected local therapy: shampoos, creams, peels. Usually they have substances that suppress the multiplication of fungus and reduces sebum. Sometimes shampoos need to be combined, and in addition to the therapeutic use of a neutral to maintain the normal pH of the scalp. If local therapy fails, the course is a systemic therapy and mesotherapeutic cocktails that have substations action.

What not to do is to self-medicate. Only time will lose, and the consequences of such “treatment” can be very different. Based on my experience, I note that a good specialist will choose a systematic approach and will not treat symptoms, but the root cause, will try to exclude diseases that triggered the appearance of seborrhea, and then will take over her treatment.
