Amoxicillin and Biseptol, drug choice

A number of indications will affect the appointment of Amoxicillin or Biseptol:

  • In childhood, a specialist will give preference to Amoxicillin. Biseptol will not be prescribed up to 3 years or even more at an older age, if there are serious contraindications.
  • In the appointment of a pregnant and lactating woman will prefer Amoxicillin.
  • Biseptol copes better with diseases of the urinary tract, but in gynecology they prefer to prescribe Amoxicillin.
  • With diseases of the circulatory system, Biseptol will not be prescribed.
  • In diseases of the respiratory tract, Amoxicillin is most often prescribed. However, Biseptolum is not contraindicated in bronchial asthma, which can be a decisive factor.
  • Increased intolerance to certain components of one of the drugs can also determine the choice in favor of a particular antibiotic.

Amoxcillin and Biseptol can not be called analogues, but sometimes experts replace them with each other to improve the clinical picture. When taking these funds, care must be taken, since they have a number of contraindications and a serious negative effect on the body.

Infectious and inflammatory diseases often arise due to malfunctioning of the immune system. Most often, pathogenic microorganisms cause diseases of the respiratory and genitourinary system. In such cases, Amoxicillin or Biseptolum is prescribed. But which one is better and safer?

General information

Amoxicillin and Biseptol belong to the group of antibiotics . The first is semi-synthetic , and the second is synthetic . Although they belong to different pharmacological groups, they are struggling with similar diseases.

There is an opinion that Biseptolum is not an antibiotic. In part, this can be agreed, but not quite. Its main substance (sulfamethoxazole) is not assigned to the group of antibiotics, but such is considered another component of the drug – trimethoprim. Therefore, the drug can be called combined with antibiotic activity.

Amoxicillin

The tool belongs to the group of antibiotics of semisynthetic penicillins. It has a wide spectrum of bactericidal action. Suppresses aerobic gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The active substance penetrates into the lung tissue, bronchial secretion, bile and urine, which leads to a quick recovery.

Amoxicillin

It is used in cases:

  • Diseases of the respiratory tract and ENT organs.
  • Middle and external otitis media.
  • The acute form of sinusitis.
  • Acute and subacute endocarditis.
  • Cestitis.
  • Infections of urogenital organs.

Penicillins have long been used in medicine, so some types of pathogenic bacteria have developed penicillinase, an enzyme that deactivates Amoxicillin. These include many gram-negative microorganisms.

The tool has a negative effect on the body. Most often, these include problems with the skin (urticaria), gastrointestinal tract, and disorder of the nervous and circulatory system.

Release Forms:

  • Capsules of 250 mg and 500 mg.
  • Granules 250 g (suspension 5 ml).
  • Powder with clavulanic acid (suspension 5 ml).

It can be taken regardless of food intake.

Contraindications:

  1. Increased intolerance to the components.
  2. Gastrointestinal infections.
  3. Respiratory viral infections.
  4. Bronchial asthma.

Biseptol

The drug belongs to combined antibacterial agents with a wide spectrum of action. It fights against pathogens of infections with their various localization in the body. Suppresses the activity of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria.

Biseptol

It is used in cases:

  • Respiratory tract infection.
  • Infections of the genitourinary system.
  • Digestive tract infections.
  • Pathology of ENT organs.

Biseptol is attributed to second-line antibiotics, so it is used if the patient has developed resistance to the first. It causes a negative effect on digestion (nausea, colitis), upset nervous and circulatory system, skin allergic reactions.

Release form:

  1. Tablets 120 mg and 480 mg, 20 pieces per pack.
  2. Suspension 5 ml of white or light beige color with the scent of strawberries.
  3. Concentrate for injection in ampoules of 5 ml.

You need to take it after eating.

Contraindications:

  • Increased intolerance to the components.
  • Liver problems.
  • Kidney dysfunction.
  • Blood diseases.
  • Children’s age (up to 3 years).
  • Pregnancy and lactation.

Caution is prescribed for thyroid dysfunction.

Drug similarities

Amoxicillin and Biseptol are not analogues in composition, but they cope with some of the same diseases:

  • Both are simple enough to take, but cause complex side effects and will be useless for viral diseases.
  • They are only available on prescription.
  • They are taken with caution simultaneously with diuretics and can not be combined with other antibiotics.
  • With renal failure in a patient, drugs are prescribed in a reduced dose.
  • They reduce the effect of oral contraception.
  • Both are undesirable for serious liver problems.

However, different compositions play an important role in the treatment, so this will affect the appointment of a drug.

Drug differences

Amoxicillin and Biseptolum differ in several parameters:

  1. Different active substance: in the first – amoxicillin, in the second – sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim.
  2. Amoxicillin is concentrated in the liver and excreted by the kidneys, Biseptol – in the intestine, although it is also excreted by the kidneys.
  3. The first can be prescribed during pregnancy, while it is recommended to abstain from the second. the same prescribing conditions for children.
  4. Amoxicillin copes worse with diseases of the urinary tract, in contrast to Biseptol, which has a wider list of eliminating pathologies in this direction.
  5. The probability of problems with hemopoiesis during treatment with Biseptolum is higher.
  6. Both drugs can cause nervous disorders (headaches, depression, etc.), but Amoxicillin only with prolonged use, while Biseptol, if there is a predisposition in the patient, after a short time.
