For the study, 40 healthy individuals were randomised to one of two teams.

One group was given a beverage having 200 grams (7 oz) of blueberries, the other had a control drink without blueberries.

Within 2 hours of consuming the blueberries, their blood pressure was reduced by 5 mmHg in the team who had been eating blueberries.

The result was sustained for the entire 40 days of the research study.

The researchers located that the helpful effect is to anthocyanins, which are antioxidants.

Anthocyanins enhance the feature of the endothelial cells, which serve as a barrier in between the body and the blood’s tissue.

The anti-oxidant is responsible for the pink, red, blue and also purple colours of some vegetables as well as fruits.

Dr Ana Rodriguez-Mateos, the research study’s first author, claimed:
