Lorista and Lorista N, the choice of drug

The most appropriate dosage form of losartan potassium for a particular patient is chosen by the profile doctor depending on the treatment technology – monotherapy or combination therapy.

The choice of drug from this series is purely individual and is based on pressure indicators. With mild hypertension (140/90), losartan monotherapy (“Lorista”) is often sufficient, with a moderate degree (160/100), combination treatment may be required, in which “Lorista N” is used.

There are a large number of drugs with a similar nature of action. A vivid example of this is Lorista and Lorista N. Both antihypertensives were synthesized using one active ingredient – losartan. The composition and principle of action of drugs have much in common, but they have different effects on the body and have some differences in the indications for use.

Hypertension is especially often diagnosed in older patients. With the right treatment tactics and regular medication, such patients can live a full life and save themselves from more serious heart problems.

Lorista

“Lorista” is a generic “Kozaara” (the original first-generation drug based on losartan). The drug received many positive reviews among researchers and cardiologists, it has a fairly wide range of effects. In addition to hypertensive patients, it is prescribed to compensate for heart failure, prevention of myocardial hypertrophy, as well as to people suffering from non-insulin-dependent diabetes (with glomerular lesions).

Lorista

This is a new generation drug that does not have many side effects; withdrawal syndrome is absent. With good individual tolerance, Lorista is used for long-term use.

Release form – tableted (with a content of 12.5 to 100 mg of active substance).

Lorista N

Lorista N is an antihypertensive drug that reduces Na + reabsorption. Effectively lowers blood pressure, reduces afterload on the heart, has a diuretic effect, and stops the development of myocardial hypertrophy.

Lorista N

For this drug, a number of special instructions are provided regarding the selection of the initial dosage. Release form – tablets containing 50 mg of losartan and 12.5 mg of hydrochlorothiazide.

What do Lorista and Lorista N have in common?

“Lorista” and “Lorista N” contain lactose monohydrate, which excludes the possibility of taking lactose intolerant.

The main active ingredient of the drugs is losartan potassium (Losartan), which is fully and unobstructed absorbed from the digestive tract. The mechanism of the hypotensive effect of this substance is quite complicated. It consists in the “neutralization” of these receptors in the adrenal glands, liver and kidneys to angiotensin. Being an antagonist of angiotensin, losartan dilates blood vessels, reduces stress on the heart and reduces pressure in arteries, arterioles and aorta. It also has a diuretic effect and reduces swelling in the limbs.

It has excellent selectivity and affinity for ATII receptors. By blocking angiotensin II receptors, losartan eliminates some of their effects, including vasoconstrictors and enhancing adrenal synthesis of the hormone aldosterone. It does not block ion channels, does not act on other (important for important for cardiovascular regulation) receptors and the ACE enzyme involved in the breakdown of bradykinin.

Structure

In the composition of “Lorista N” in addition to losartan there is a second active substance – a diuretic hydrochlorothiazide, which helps to expand arterioles and has a saluretic effect.

Mechanism of action

Lorista can be used in a variety of treatment regimens and as a means of emergency pressure reduction. Its action is aimed at reducing afterload on the heart. Also, the drug is used to prevent myocardial hypertrophy.

Lorista N is used exclusively in combination therapy and is more compatible with other drugs. Doctors often prescribe it in combination with other antihypertensive drugs. Due to the diuretic effect, Lorista N removes excess fluid from the body and reduces swelling, thereby enhancing the main effect.

Indications for use

“Lorista” is prescribed for essential hypertension, in some cases – impaired renal function in case of hypertension and type II diabetes, heart failure in the elderly (if it is impossible to take ACE inhibitors), for the prevention of strokes in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy (expansion).

These medicines can only be taken by adults. To diabetics and allergy sufferers – with caution. Food interaction is unimportant.

Contraindications

These drugs can not be taken by pregnant women, when planning pregnancy and feeding, up to 18 years old, with low blood pressure, intolerance to lactose or individual components in the composition, dehydration (dehydration) and hyperglycemia. It is also recommended to avoid their combination with alcohol.

In addition to these restrictions, Lorista N has a number of additional contraindications. It can not be taken with severe damage to the kidneys, anuria, hyperkalemia and refractory hypokalemia.

Prices

The cost of the usual “Lorista” in pharmacy chains is 120-140 rubles (30 pcs.). “Lorista N” will cost almost twice as much – from 319 rubles. for packaging of the same volume.
