Verapamil and Concor, the choice of drug

The dosage form of both drugs is the same. Pregnancy and lactation are contraindications to the appointment of Verapamil or Concor, which can be used in exceptional cases after assessing the possible risks to the fetus. The therapeutic effect of taking drugs occurs within the next 2-3 hours of taking the medicine. Both drugs are prohibited for use by persons under 18 years of age.

Common contraindications are the presence of such ailments as cardiogenic shock, acute heart failure, sinus node weakness syndrome, pronounced bradycardia. As a result of taking drugs, undesirable side effects from the gastrointestinal tract, central nervous system are possible. Both drugs are used under constant medical supervision and according to an individual scheme.

The drugs Verapamil and Concor, which have antianginal and antiarrhythmic properties, are used in medical practice for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Drugs normalize heart rhythm and reduce heart rate.

Verapamil Properties

The therapeutic effect is due to the content of the active substance in the preparation – verapamil hydrochloride. The mechanism of action is to block calcium channels, preventing the influx of calcium into the smooth muscles, heart muscle and the conduction system of the heart. It is used to treat the following diseases:

  1. Hypertension.
  2. Arrhythmias of the heart.
  3. Migraine.
  4. Angina pectoris.

The medicine is taken in tablets and capsules. For patients with coronary heart disease (chronic vasospastic angina), Verapamil is prescribed after a heart attack, provided there is no insufficiency of myocardial contractility. Tablets are used as a prophylactic for cluster pain with a mandatory ECG check.

Verapamil

Contraindications for taking the drug are:

  • IIB-III stage of chronic heart failure.
  • Cardiogenic shock, excluding shock caused by arrhythmia.
  • Sick sinus syndrome.
  • Asynchronous myocardial contraction.
  • II and III degrees of atrioventricular block.
  • Syndromes of Wolf-Parkinson-White and Morgagni-Adams-Stokes.
  • Acute heart failure.

The drug is contraindicated in the presence of individual intolerance and to children under 18 years of age. Pregnant women may prescribe funds only if the expected benefit for the patient exceeds the potential risk to the fetus. Nursing mothers can take medicine, but at this time the baby is transferred to artificial feeding.

Side effects of the drug are manifested by the cardiovascular system, facial flushing, increased heart rate, arterial hypotension, and AV block. Possible with the therapeutic course, nausea, vomiting, constipation, headaches and dizziness, as well as allergic reactions and the development of peripheral edema.

The use of Verapamil simultaneously with a number of other drugs (antiarrhythmic and antihypertensive drugs, digoxin, cimetidine, rifampicin, theophylline groups, muscle relaxants, acetylsalicylic acid) leads to the development of undesirable consequences. An overdose of the drug can cause deep depression of consciousness, arterial hypotension, sinus bradycardia.

Properties of the drug “Concor”

Concor, as a representative of the group of beta and adrenergic blockers, containing bis-propolol fumarate, very effectively blocks the effect of adrenaline on the heart. By deliberately preventing the increase in the number and strength of contraction of the heart muscle, the medicine helps to dilate the vessels supplying blood to the heart. This significantly reduces the amount of blood pushed by the heart directly into the circulatory system. The result is a rapid drop in blood pressure. Taking the drug weakens the strength of the heartbeat, inhibits cardiac conduction.

Concor

The drug is prescribed if:

  1. Coronary heart disease.
  2. Chronic angina pectoris, arterial hypertension.

In the process of taking Concor, the following side effects are noted:

  • Migraine attacks.
  • Cold feeling in limbs.
  • Disorders from the digestive tract, accompanied by nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.

A weighted approach to the use of the drug is recommended if a person has the following pathologies:

  • Prinzmetal’s angina pectoris.
  • Diabetes mellitus.
  • Myasthenia gravis, psoriasis.
  • Depression
  • Renal failure (chronic).
  • Severe liver pathologies.
Distinctive features

The main difference between the drugs is a different mechanism of action. If “Concor” blocks the effect of stimulating nerve impulses on the heart muscle, then Verapamil reduces the oxygen demand of the myocardium and increases coronary blood flow. As a result, verapamil has a wider spectrum of effects. In addition to tableting, verapamil is also used orally and as an injection.

The use of verapamil can provoke unusual side effects in the form of:

  • Decreased insulin secretion.
  • Blockade of the atrioventricular node with a danger to life.
  • Allergic inflammation of the liver cells.
  • Erectile dysfunction.

Concor affects hearing impairment, the appearance of muscle weakness, and various allergic reactions.

Who is recommended for this or that drug

Concor is effective:

  1. With eating disorders of the heart muscle.
  2. In the treatment of high blood pressure.
  3. In the stage of compensation for chronic heart failure.

The drug is prescribed in cases of frequent attacks of migraines, obstructive pulmonary pathologies in mild form, with glaucoma and before surgery, as well as in the postoperative period. Effective use of the drug to prevent recurrence of myocardial infarction and in old age.

Verapamil is chosen for treatment and as a prophylactic for pathologies of heart rhythm, various types of angina pectoris and arterial hypertension.
