A new approach to the irradiation of the trigeminal nerve

The main symptom of trigeminal neuralgia is severe pain that a person feels, usually on the right or left side of the face. These attacks are so strong, that to tolerate them is almost impossible, and the official medicine even documented cases when because of the terrible pain these people have completed suicide.

Not so long ago in the world famous tel Aviv Sourasky medical center (Ichilov) in Israel in the treatment of pain syndrome of the facial nerve, which is directly related to trigeminal neuralgia, a new method of therapy, which after the first weeks of use gave positive results.

Pain because the cerebral artery begins to put pressure on passing by the trigeminal nerve. This pressure causes damage and disrupts the normal operations of its tissue, that is, conductivity. This is the reason of the strongest attacks, to cope with which sometimes can not even painkillers. This pain can appear for no reason, or while talking, chewing, washing, sneezing or yawning.

Latest modern technique of Israeli doctors in the treatment of this disease is that the nerve is beginning to influence not of drugs, and stereotactic radiosurgical irradiation. As a result, the nerve tissue to a certain extent, loses the ability to transmit impulses to the brain that is the cause of the pain.

Feature of the procedure is that it is carried out in an outpatient setting and lasts less than an hour, and after such treatment the patient can immediately go home. This method belongs to the group of non-invasive (non-surgical) therapeutic treatment and only recently started to be used in Israel.

This effective treatment appeared at the Sourasky medical centre thanks to the joint work of two different departments of neurosurgery and radiology Institute. Although this method has been used for the past few years in other foreign clinics, its effectiveness and availability, said the doctors of Israel.

  2. I’m impressed, I must say. Seldom do I come across a blog that’s both equally educative and engaging, and let me tell you, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The problem is something that not enough men and women are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I came across this in my hunt for something relating to this.
