Madeleine Shaw reveals the healthy hacks everyone needs to know for a better life

Spring is finally upon us, and if you’re looking for a little wellness inspiration to lift you out of your winter slump and fuel a new season state of mind, Madeleine Shaw has got you sorted.

In her latest mission, nutritional therapist and all-round wellness guru Madeleine has teamed up with Mindful Chef, the UK’s favourite healthy recipe box company, to inspire people to eat nutritious and great tasting food.

Mindful Chef’s mission is all in the name: to be mindful of the suppliers it chooses, mindful of the ingredients it uses, and mindful of the brand’s impact on the environment, through tasty, nutritious, and easy-to-cook recipe boxes.

Every week, customers receive a low carb, gluten-free food box containing a choice of meat, fish, and vegan ingredients sourced from small British farms. Plus, there’s 16 different recipes to choose from each week, so you’ll never get bored with the menu.

Better yet, with every meal you buy, Mindful Chef donates a school meal to a child in poverty through the charity One Feeds Two. What’s not to love?

If you’re stuck in an after-work food rut, trying to eat a little healthier, or simply need to spark inspiration in the kitchen, Madeleine’s 15-minute recipes will shake up your eating habits in no time.

We sat down with Madeleine to chat the latest food trends, at-home beauty hacks and after-work recipes for women on the move.

What is a new healthy foodie trend you’re seeing a lot of lately?

Seitan – an awesome vegan protein! Seems like there’s loads of ways of using it. I love to use it as a replacement for bacon, in a tomato, avocado salad with a drizzling of thai tahini dressing!

What are 3 staples everyone needs in their kitchen cupboard?

Olive oil, can of chick pea and miso paste – I think I’m slightly addicted to getting these into every single recipe I make.

What are your fav homemade beauty hacks?

I love doing a almond oil hair mask, where I’ll put on lots of almond oil on my hair for the evening and wash before bed. It leaves my hair super soft and silky the next day.

What is a face mask recipe you make at home and what are the benefits?

My favourite has got to be a yoghurt and honey face mask. The lactic acid in the yoghurt acts as a natural exfoliant and honey is an anti inflammatory which reduces redness – plus you get to eat the leftovers, win win!

What are 3 recipes perfect for glowing skin?

1. My chickpea taco bowl that I made with Mindful Chef is amazing for this, as it is just a bowl of goodness with avocado, mango, lettuce, chickpeas. Yum.

2. Try a detoxifying green smoothie with collagen for breakfast or a snack mid afternoon, lots of gorgeous fruits and a scoop of collagen which has so many skin boosting benefits.:

50g of pineapple (chopped and peeled)

  • 1 peeled kiwi
  • 300ml of coconut water
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1 handful of spinach
  • 1/2 tsp of coconut oil
  • Scoop of collagen

Lastly, these energy balls are fab. Goji berries contain polysaccharides. Polysaccharides have been known to have antioxidant properties, and their presence in goji berries help to increase skin hydration, as well as to tighten and firm the surface of the skin!!

What is the best recipe for someone to make when they have 20 mins after work?

It would be silly not to say my Fish Parcel for sure! It’s a recipe that looks like it should take ages, but is so so simple and uses minimal utensils (so no stack loads of washing up to do after). I love it!
