Loceryl and Oflomil, the choice of drug

Due to the fact that the preparations have a large number of similarities (active component, indications and contraindications for use, treatment method, etc.), any of them can be used. If there is no effect from one remedy, it is not recommended to replace it with another, and first visit a doctor who will prescribe the most suitable treatment.

It must be remembered that onychomycosis is a serious disease that can cause serious complications if left untreated or treated incorrectly. It is necessary to pass a special analysis, which will show what kind of fungi affected the body. And according to the results of the analysis, the doctor will be able to choose a treatment aimed at the destruction of a particular type of fungus. In many cases, one varnish is indispensable, for treatment it will be necessary to drink a course of special antifungal tablets.

Nail fungus is a very common disease that is found in one form or another in many people. The main symptoms of infection are a change in the color of the nail, itching of the skin around, thickening and ingrowth of the nail plate. Without special preparations, the fungus cannot be eliminated.

The medication is used to treat fungal infections of the nails caused by various types of fungi (if no more than 2/3 of the nail plate is affected, “Loceryl” can be used for monotherapy). It can also be used to prevent infection.

Contraindications are hypersensitivity to the components of the drug and age less than 18 years. Not recommended for use by pregnant and lactating women.

It is made in India. It is released without a prescription.

Similarities

Patients often ask pharmacists at a pharmacy how these drugs differ. In fact, the agents are analogues – they contain the same active substance and have the same destructive effect on the fungus. Amorolfin (the active substance) destroys the cell membranes of fungi, leads to disruption of biochemical processes in their organisms, as a result of which microorganisms die.
Preparations, due to the same active component, have the same indications and contraindications for use. They are effective against the same types of fungi (dermatophytes, mold and yeast) and are not used during pregnancy, lactation and at the age of less than 18 years. Contraindication is also intolerance to the substances that make up the means.

The form of release for “Loceril” and “Oflomil” is also the same. They are both available in the form of nail polishes, and each product comes with a special nail file and a cotton swab.

The method of use of both drugs:

  • Using a file, remove damaged areas of the nail as much as possible.
  • Degrease the nail plate with an alcohol swab. Before each subsequent application, it is necessary to treat the affected nails with a nail file each time and remove the remaining varnish with an alcohol swab.
  • Dip the spatula in the varnish. The blade should be removed from the bottle so as not to touch the neck.
  • Apply varnish to the entire surface of the infected nail plate.
  • Close the bottle tightly, after wiping its neck with the same swab that was used to process the nail plate.
  • Leave the varnish to dry for a few minutes.
  • Wipe the blade with an alcohol swab, while avoiding contact between the swab and the treated nail plates. Discard used swab.

The varnish should be applied to the nails affected by the fungus 1-2 times a week. Suitable for use on arms and legs.

As you can see, the method and application scheme of “Loceryl” and “Oflomil” are the same. Both funds are dispensed without a prescription.

Differences

There are also slight differences in these medicines:

  • “Loceryl” is produced in France, and “Oflomil” in India.
  • The shelf life of the first asset is 3 years, and the shelf life of the second asset is 2 years.
  • Lotseril is available in 2.5 and 5 ml bottles, and Oflomil is available in 2.5 ml bottles only.

The only significant difference between drugs is their price. “Loceryl” is a more expensive means – a 2.5 ml bottle of varnish costs about 900-920 rubles, and a 5 ml bottle of about 2300 rubles.

In order not to overpay, you can buy 2 bottles of 2.5 ml, and the cost will still be lower. And if you buy “Oflomil”, then it will come out even cheaper, since it costs only 685-700 rubles. However, it should be borne in mind that there are fewer cotton swabs in its packaging, but this is fixable – they can be bought at any pharmacy.
