The drug is rapidly distributed in fluids and tissues, in cerebrospinal fluid therapeutic concentration is observed only with inflammation of the meninges. The antibiotic crosses the placenta and is secreted through the mammary glands. The antimicrobial agent is excreted through the kidneys unchanged.

Cefixime is a semisynthetic antibiotic of the third generation of the cephalosporin series, which exhibits a bactericidal effect. It inhibits the formation of the cell wall of microbes, as a result they die.

The antimicrobial agent is active against the following bacteria:

Many staphylococci are resistant to cefixime, including methicillin-resistant strains.
The bioavailability of the antibiotic varies from 40% to 50%, the maximum concentration of 0.8 h is achieved faster if you drink the medicine at the same time with food. Up to 65% of the accepted dosage binds to plasma proteins. About half of the dosage taken is excreted through the kidneys unchanged during the first day, about 10% through the intestines. The elimination half-life varies from 3 to 4 hours. In patients with kidney pathologies, due to which creatine clearance of not more than 40 ml per minute, the elimination half-life is extended to 6.4 hours, when creatine clearance does not exceed more than 10 ml per minute – up to 11.5 hours.
