Panangin

Panangin is a medicinal product manufactured by the Hungarian company Gedeon Richter, one of the popular and inexpensive means for restoring the potassium-magnesium balance and strengthening the heart muscle.

Form of issue and composition

Panangin is available in two forms – tablets (15 tablets packed in one blister, maybe 50-60 tablets in total) and a solution for injections (10 ml of solution in a single plastic ampoule, 5 ampoules in a package).

Pills. In Panangin, two active substances – aspartic acid (aspartic acid derivative) of magnesium and potassium asparaginate; the tablet contains 140 mg of the first and 158 mg of the second. In addition to active substances, tablets contain auxiliary – corn and potato starch, talc, magnesium stearate, povidone, colloidal silicon dioxide. The tablets are white, convex on both sides, odorless and coated.

The drug for injection. It contains 40 mg of magnesium aspartate and 45.2 mg of potassium aspartate, as well as distilled water. The drug is clear, can be either colorless or light greenish.

How does Panangin

Violations of electrolyte balance are a common problem. It is especially important to control the concentration of elements such as potassium and magnesium; in the predominant form they are inside the cell in the form of positively charged ions (K +, Mg2 +) and participate in enzymatic processes (including the utilization of energy by the human body) and, at the molecular level, muscle contractions, help maintain the acid-base balance and participate in the synthesis of many important elements for the body.

The balance and concentration of these ions directly affects the contraction of the heart muscle. With potassium deficiency, the cardiovascular system is exposed to the greatest danger, in which pathologies can develop, in some cases capable of leading to death. Also, a violation of the potassium-magnesium balance can worsen the course of hypertensive disease and increase the risk of stroke.

At the same time, both elements work in tandem – magnesium helps the body absorb potassium and maintains its concentration in the cells of the human body at a sufficient level. Therefore, it is better to take potassium and magnesium together. Aspartate acts as a conductor of ions of active substances, delivering them inside the cell.

Pharmacokinetics

The drug is well absorbed, excreted by the kidneys.

Indications for the use of Panangin

As a rule, Panangin is prescribed with a deficiency of magnesium and potassium, which can cause many causes – for example, severe infectious diseases, dehydration due to unforeseen circumstances or excessive dragging by diuretic drugs and laxative, after blood transfusion, due to various metabolic disorders and, of course, lack of these substances in the diet. Also, Panangin helps the body better perceive the medicinal action of cardiac glycosides – drugs used to treat heart failure. Often, Panangin is used in restoring after heart attacks, as well as in violation of the heart rhythm.

How to apply Panangin

Orally. Panangin is taken in tablets one to two times three times a day. The maximum dose of the drug is 3 tablets 3 times a day. Tablets are taken after meals, the usual course of admission is two weeks. Although, according to the instructions, Panangin can be taken for as long as desired, it is recommended to discuss the duration of the medication and the need for repeated courses with the attending physician.

If for any reason the patient misses Panangin, the pill should be taken immediately. However, if there is little time left before the next dose, it is recommended that the schedule be followed. A double dose of tablets should not be taken.

Intravenously. For intravenous injections, a solution is used – the contents of the ampoule are mixed with 50-100 ml of a 5% solution of glucose. The doctor or nurse injected by slow infusion – with the gradual introduction of the drug, the rate of increase in its concentration is lower, it is better absorbed by the body and there are no undesirable side effects in the form of skin hyperemia. The maximum dosage is two ampoules at a time; a break between Panagin’s doses from 4 to 6 hours.

Should I take Panangin for preventive purposes?

If there are no contraindications to the use of Panangin, and in connection with some conditions (for example, with limited nutrition) potassium / magnesium in the diet is present in insufficient quantities, you can take Panangin for preventive purposes. If the dietary conditions are normal, the level of potassium and magnesium in the blood can be restored by including more honey, apple cider vinegar, bananas, dried fruits, nuts, green leafy vegetables, baked peeled potatoes, legumes, rye bread and other products rich in these elements in your diet.

Contraindications

Reception of Panangin in certain diseases can worsen the patient’s health or adversely affect the assimilation of the drug. Therefore, when contacting a doctor, it is necessary to warn him in advance about the presence of the following diseases:

Heart diseases, such as arrhythmia, heart failure, atrioventicular blockade of I-III degree. Myocardial infarction. Hemolysis.

Acute and chronic renal failure.

Abnormalities in the balance of substances, such as hyperkalemia and hypermagnesemia, impaired metabolism of amino acids, dehydration, metabolic acidosis.

Some autoimmune diseases, such as myasthenia gravis in severe degree.

Addison’s disease.

Reduced blood pressure (cardiogenic shock). Although Panangin can be taken with moderate hypotension, but with a systolic blood pressure below 90 mm Hg. Art. it is recommended to abandon the drug.

Diseases of the urinary system, for example, anuria and oligonuria.

Hypersensitivity. If a person is allergic to any component of the tablets, it is recommended to refrain from taking Panangin.

Children under 18 years old should not take Panangin – its effect was not tested on patients of this age.

Side effects
Taking Panangin can cause the following side effects:

The cardiovascular system. Reduction of blood pressure, paradoxical reaction (severe deterioration of the condition), atrioventricular blockade of the heart.

Muscular system. Paresthesia (burning, tingling, “creepy”), convulsions, hyporeflexia (lowering of reflexes, mostly spinal).

Gastrointestinal tract. Vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, a feeling of heaviness in the pancreas, especially in patients with gastritis or cholecystitis.

Respiratory system. Inhibition of breathing.

Violation of the potassium-magnesium exchange. Hyperkalemia, the symptoms of which are general weakness, tachycardia, decreased muscle tone. Hypermagnesemia, which causes reddening of the face, increased thirst, low blood pressure, respiratory depression, convulsions.

Here are listed not all the side effects that can cause Panangin; in many respects their presence is due to the individual reaction of the organism. If a person seems to think that Panangin’s treatment causes any unpleasant changes in his body, you should consult a doctor.

special instructions

Hypotension. Preparations containing potassium and magnesium, reduce the pressure by about 3-5 mm Hg. Therefore, with low blood pressure, it is recommended that you regularly monitor your indicators.

Hyperkalemia. If Panangin is prescribed to a patient with hyperkalemia, it is necessary to constantly monitor the content of potassium ions with the help of ionograms.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Clinical studies on the effects of Panangin on pregnant and lactating women have not been conducted, so it is recommended to use the drug very carefully, especially in the first trimester.

An overdose of the drug

If an overdose of the drug should immediately consult a doctor, as violations of the potassium-magnesium balance can cause malfunction in the heart. If the following symptoms are observed: a violation of the rhythm of the heart, chest pain, weakness, cold sweat, a rare pulse, you should immediately seek emergency medical help.

Interaction of Panangin with other drugs
Sharing Panangin with other drugs may affect its effectiveness or increase the risk of side effects. It is recommended, when calling a doctor, to make a list of all the medicines that the patient uses, including medicinal herbs and supplements. Also, during the course of treatment with Panangin, do not start taking any new medications or change the dosage of the old without consulting a doctor.

Anesthetics. With the joint use of both Panangin and anesthetics (for example, atracuronium, dicamethonium, succinyl chloride and suxamethonium), neuromuscular blockade may be enhanced.

Antiarrhythmic drugs. Panagin may contribute to the risk of side effects of these drugs.

Vitamin D. Calcitriol (which is converted into vitamin D in the kidneys) is able to increase the magnesium content in the blood plasma.

Potassium-sparing diuretics (eg, triamterone, spironolactone). Perhaps the development of hyperkalemia.

Tetracycline, neomycin, polymyxin B, streptomycin. With the joint admission and Panangin, and these drugs, there is a decrease in the level of action of the latter.

Preparations of the group of beta-blockers and i-ACE. Although Panangin is not forbidden to take with the drugs of these groups, however, when combined, the risk of hyperkalemia, a condition caused by an elevated potassium content in the blood, increases. In severe cases, hyperkalemia requires urgent medical attention, as it causes heart rhythm disturbances. If the doctor prescribes a joint intake of these medicines, you must constantly monitor the level of potassium in the blood.

Preparations containing calcium. Reduce the effectiveness of drugs containing magnesium, including Panangin.

Preparations with astringent and enveloping effect. It is difficult to absorb Panangin in the form of tablets; so you should take them separately with an interval of at least three hours.

Interaction of Panangin with alcohol
Combine the reception of Panangin with alcohol is undesirable, since alcoholic beverages lower blood pressure and cause dehydration. The consequences can be up to the spasm of blood vessels and respiratory depression, therefore, in chronic alcoholism, Panangin is prescribed only in the remission stage.

Terms of sale

Panangin is sold without a prescription.

Storage conditions

It is best to store Panangin at room temperature (15 ° to 25 °), away from direct sunlight and at low humidity; therefore it is not recommended to keep Panangin in the refrigerator or in the bathroom cabinet. And, of course, the drug should be stored out of reach of children and pets.

Shelf life

The drug can be stored for five years.

  1. Hey there! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any issues with hackers? My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing several weeks of hard work due to no backup. Do you have any methods to prevent hackers?

  2. Hey just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text in your post seem to be running off the screen in Internet explorer. I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with web browser compatibility but I thought I’d post to let you know. The layout look great though! Hope you get the issue resolved soon. Kudos
