First cool the sunburn. Ice and a cold shower will not work, these are too aggressive measures. It is better to periodically apply thermal water to the skin from a spray can or make compresses from napkins dipped in drinking water. Water should be at room temperature. On the first day, carry out such a procedure five to seven times, on the second day it is already ineffective.
Hydrocortisone preparations will help relieve inflammation, they are conveniently used in the form of an emulsion or spray (before use, consult a specialist). Use the product for two to three days. The frequency of application is once a day. And of course, damaged skin needs to be moisturized, for this I advise you to choose gel creams. What is more important: when you go outside, cover the burn area with clothing.
If after a long exposure to the sun you have a headache, a fever, blisters on your skin or you generally feel unwell, seek medical attention immediately.
How not to
In case of sunburn, in no case do not use oils and oil-based products. They form a film on the skin and block heat transfer. As a result, the depth of the burn may increase. It is also important not to rub the skin with a towel – this can injure it, it is better to get it wet gently.
Dubstep music can scare mosquitoes away (and scientists even know which one)
An international group of scientists has found out how electronic music affects insects. As an experiment, they included adult specimens of yellow fever mosquitoes (Latin Aedes aegypti) dubstep composition Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites by the American artist Skrillex. This composition was chosen due to the combination of very high and very low frequencies.
It turned out that mosquitoes that “listened” to the composition were much less likely to attack people in search of food than individuals in a silent environment. Even after listening to music, mosquitoes were much less likely to mate.
“Sound plays an important role in the reproduction, survival, and conservation of populations in many animals. Low-frequency vibrations help insects to mate, and noise makes it difficult to perceive signals from representatives of their species and people [in whom these insects suck blood], ”the study said.
Scientists believe that these observations will help develop protective and control measures against diseases transmitted by Aedes aegypti.
Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are carriers of several dangerous diseases and viruses, such as dengue, h Ikungunya , yellow fever, Zika. This type of mosquito is found in the tropics and subtropics.
In 2012, Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites received a Grammy Award for Best Dance Record.
Question: Is it possible to drink tap water?
An unambiguous answer, as often happens, is impossible to give. The fact is that tap water is different in different regions of Russia (even in Moscow it is different).
In 2017, Rospotrebnadzor particularly noted the quality of tap water in the following regions:
- by sanitary-chemical indicators – Sevastopol, Kamchatka Territory;
- by microbiological indicators – St. Petersburg, Moscow and Sevastopol, the Republic of Kalmykia and Mordovia, Stavropol and Kamchatka Territories, Orenburg Region;
- for parasitological indicators – all the territories of the Russian Federation, with the exception of the Sverdlovsk region (0.6% of water samples here are in excess of hygiene standards).
In 2017, more than 50% of drinking water supply samples did not meet hygienic standards for sanitary and chemical indicators in the Republic of Kalmykia (71.4%), Dagestan (67.1%), Mordovia (66.7%) and Novgorod Region (51, 7%); by microbiological indicators – in the Republic of Ingushetia (hygiene standards are exceeded in 15.2% of samples), the Karachay-Cherkess Republic (14.9%), the Nenets Autonomous Okrug (14.3%) and the Smolensk Region (13.9%).
But even if you live in one of the “lucky regions”, do not rush to refuse filters and drink tap water. Yes, a local water utility can produce ideal water, but then this water is sent through pipes, which are most likely far from ideal. This is especially true of a dilapidated house with old water supply networks (depreciation of water supply networks in Moscow in 2012 was 68%).
Important: the water utility is responsible for the water that enters the distribution network, and the utilities are already responsible for the pipes. At the same time, it will not work to determine the quality of water at home – laboratory tests will be needed (this is necessary in order to choose the right filter). To do this, you need to submit an application for analysis to the sanitary epidemiological station, the housing and communal services service or the Rospotrebnadzor. You can contact an independent laboratory. The analysis is paid, it costs from 1,000 to 3,500 rubles.
Since laboratory studies are different, you first need to study what deviations in water quality are typical for your region, and select the analysis in which the desired indicator is examined. Look for information on your city HERE. After analysis, you will have all the necessary data to correctly select the filter. In addition, until you get the result of the research, do not forget about another good option: boiling. With it, you will get rid of bacteria, viruses and protozoa.
This article deals only with cold tap water. Hot tap water is not recommended to drink or use in cooking.
