An unambiguous answer, as often happens, is impossible to give. The fact is that tap water is different in different regions of Russia (even in Moscow it is different).
In 2017, Rospotrebnadzor particularly noted the quality of tap water in the following regions:
- by sanitary-chemical indicators – Sevastopol, Kamchatka Territory;
- by microbiological indicators – St. Petersburg, Moscow and Sevastopol, the Republic of Kalmykia and Mordovia, Stavropol and Kamchatka Territories, Orenburg Region;

But even if you live in one of the “lucky regions”, do not rush to refuse filters and drink tap water. Yes, a local water utility can produce ideal water, but then this water is sent through pipes, which are most likely far from ideal. This is especially true of a dilapidated house with old water supply networks (depreciation of water supply networks in Moscow in 2012 was 68%).
Important: the water utility is responsible for the water that enters the distribution network, and the utilities are already responsible for the pipes. At the same time, it will not work to determine the quality of water at home – laboratory tests will be needed (this is necessary in order to choose the right filter). To do this, you need to submit an application for analysis to the sanitary epidemiological station, the housing and communal services service or the Rospotrebnadzor.
