Dairy products are contraindicated

This means that their body does not produce enough enzyme to completely break down lactose to simple sugars. We tell you what symptoms indicate this and what to do for those who love dairy products.

The American National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases conducted a survey of the experimental group, which suggested that about 15-20 percent of the population did not tolerate lactose.

We determine lactose intolerance and change the diet to equally useful alternatives

What is lactose intolerance

“Lactose intolerance is not the same as an allergy to dairy products,” says Cavita Dada, a specialist at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In case of allergies, you should completely exclude dairy products from the diet and strictly control that they are not added when cooking dishes in cafes and restaurants. Lactose intolerance is not a sentence, but the need to buy dairy products with a low content of this element.

Lactase deficiency symptoms

  • Flatulence – the stomach is inflated, seethes
  • Heaviness in the abdomen – after consuming dairy products you feel an overcrowded stomach
  • Abdominal pain – heartburn, tingling, pulling pains in the lower abdomen
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea

These symptoms usually occur between half an hour and two hours after eating lactose-containing foods. Some diseases of the gastrointestinal tract can cause the same problems, so consult your doctor and get tested to determine if the problems are caused by lactose intolerance or another condition.

How to alleviate the condition

There is no way to get the body to produce more of the lactase enzyme, but the symptoms of lactose intolerance can be controlled with a diet.

Most older children and adults should not completely eliminate lactose-containing foods from the diet. It is enough to control your condition by experimenting with the use of different products. Follow proper nutrition and add one type of dairy product to the standard diet during the day, and then monitor your well-being. So you will understand which foods the body reacts to, and which foods can be left in the diet.

Usually the least reaction is caused by cheese, fermented baked milk and baked milk – during heating, the lactose content decreases. Another option is to have an extended blood test for lactose in a private medical center, which includes an assessment of the reaction to specific products.

Buy dairy products that are low in lactose – these are on the shelves in the diet department. Or replace cow’s milk with vegetable milk, such as rice or oat milk. Also, delicious milk is obtained from nuts – almonds, hazelnuts, coconut. To taste in the finished dishes, it practically does not differ from the animal, so you do not have to get used to it for a long time.
