The difference between a doctor and a doctor

We are born in a medical institution, observed in a clinic, undergo medical examinations, take our children to consult. That is why the question often arises: what is the difference between the terms doctor and doctor.

There are two concepts, this title and profession, which can be practiced if a person has the right to do so.

A doctor is a practitioner, denotes the name of a profession, and a doctor is a title for achievements in the theory of science.

Doctor

The profession, which is assigned to students who completed a course of study, practice in medicine and received a diploma confirming knowledge, qualifications, the right to work in medicine or surgery.

Duties of the doctor:

  • They are responsible for providing medical care to patients, after a thorough diagnosis based on patient surveys and laboratory examinations.
  • They give appointments and advice to the patient how to be treated, maintain health.
  • The urgency of subsequent examinations and appointments is determined, medications and treatment methods are prescribed, sick leave documents are drawn up, and outpatient patient records are kept, reporting.
  • They carry out prophylaxis, plan the treatment of the disease on the basis of the diagnosis and the observed symptoms.
  • Refer the patient to other specialists, gives direction to a more accurate ultrasound examination.
  • Directs for medical and social examination, regarding disability.
Doctor

The highest degree is assigned to a person on the basis of the thesis defense, the next step for a PhD. You can defend a dissertation in any subject. PhDs conduct research in various fields.

A doctorate is awarded:

  1. Legal.
  2. Economic.
  3. Pedagogical.
  4. Technical.
  5. Psychological.
  6. Medical.
  7. Physical and mathematical sciences.

You can be a doctor in various fields. For example: a person with a doctoral dissertation in history is a doctor of historical sciences.

Similarities

The doctor has a diploma confirming what activities he is allowed to engage in: treating people or animals, injuries or illnesses. Call doctors orthopedists, dentists, clinical psychologists, chiropractors, physiotherapists. In the CIS countries, a doctor or other specialist who graduated from a university and defended his dissertation receives a doctorate. In America, the word means certification after completing an internship.

Doctor is a title that is awarded to persons who have reached the highest degree in medicine, law, art, dentistry, and veterinary medicine. Translated from the Latin language, the word means to teach, teach, explain. The presence of a citizen’s academic degree is confirmed by the corresponding document – a diploma.

It is believed that in medical practice these terms are synonyms. We can say: I’ll go to the doctor, I’ll go to the doctor. The meaning does not change. In such combinations there is no difference if we do not consider doctors of science.

Differences

A doctor is a person who has graduated from a higher medical institution. A medical doctor does not have a doctorate (without a dissertation), but there is a state diploma after passing practice. The defense of the thesis, is prepared a year before the state exams.

In Europe, they call people with completed higher education in the field of: medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine. In films or series, actors often call each other a doctor. This is due to the fact that in other countries, the word is filled with a different meaning. Patients who come to the clinic often call the doctor a doctor, showing respect. Although this is not correct. Calling this a health worker, we exaggerate its significance somewhat.

In medical universities, students study. After graduation, students who wish to continue their studies enter graduate school. A graduate student is a young researcher (regardless of discipline) who writes a scientific dissertation to obtain a title in a specialty, under the supervision of a supervisor. Often, research takes many years. Having defended his doctoral dissertation, the researcher receives the title. It takes many years to get a doctorate. There are more doctors in medicine than professors. Only a minority of them have the prestigious title of professor.

A doctor is a general term for all candidates of science who have defended a dissertation in a specialty and received an honorary title. This is the highest rank awarded on the basis of public defense of a doctoral dissertation.
A scientific degree is awarded to citizens who have defended their qualification work – the dissertation. It can be assigned to specialists in various fields of science involved in research, such as nuclear physics. The title is given for the quality of knowledge and discoveries made in the field of: mathematics, chemistry, astronomy, history and other fields.

Candidate of Science is awarded a diploma. This is the first step in obtaining a doctor of science.

In order to become a candidate of science you need:

  • Have a university specialist diploma.
  • Pass the candidate minimum.
  • Have research work supervised by a certification committee.
  • Prove the value of your ideas.
  • Successfully defend a dissertation.

There are two options for obtaining a degree:

  1. Postgraduate study (3 years full-time and 5 years part-time education).
  2. Competition is a free form under the supervision of a supervisor.
